Bongards Creameries Purchases Production Facility in Humboldt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber today congratulated company officials from Bongards' Creameries, a manufacturer of natural and process cheeses and whey proteins, on the purchase of a 114,000 square ft. production facility in Humboldt. The investment will create 89 new jobs over the next three years.

"Governor Bredesen and I welcome Bongards' Creameries to Tennessee and thank them for their investment in our citizens and state," said Commissioner Kisber. "When companies successfully expand in a challenging economic environment, it shows strong confidence in their business strategy, Tennessee's business climate and in Tennessee workers and we're grateful Bongards' Creameries feels strongly about our state as a business location."

The property purchased in Humboldt was previously owned by ACH food companies and was used to produce loaf and shred imitation cheeses. Bongards' expects to have the capacity to produce natural and processed shredded cheeses by the middle of the summer. Loaf processed cheese production is scheduled to begin by the end of the third quarter.

"Purchasing the facility in Humboldt will allow us to be easily accessible to our customers in the southeastern part of the country," said Keith Grove, general manager of Bongards' Creameries. "It will also allow us to expand our product line and strengthen our role in the production of products we are already manufacturing."

Bongards' product line includes natural blocks, natural barrels, processed American and cheese product loaf and slices, processed chubs, natural slices, shredded natural and shredded processed American and cheese product cheeses. Future plans include expanding the facility to allow production of sliced processed cheese. Bongards' also intends to add cream cheese to its product line portfolio in the near future.

"Bongards' Creameries has honored Humboldt in their decision to expand their operation to our city," said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Gil Fletcher. "Their decision gives a nice shot in the arm to our employment picture and to our economy."
